Büsche - Bushes

Es ist Zeit für eine neue Ausgabe "Mach aus wirklich häßlichem Zeug zumindest etwas Nützliches". In diesem Fall bauen wir uns Büsche (oder Bäume, je nach Maßstab).

Im SciFi-Spiel kann man sowas immer brauchen - es gibt auch Planeten mit Vegetation. In diesem Fall wollte ich einen Kampf in einem hydroponischen Garten auf einer Raumstation machen. Regeltechnisch war das einfach - die Bäume und Büsche funktionierten wie Deckung, was das Erkennen und Zielen anbelangte, aber nicht, was den auftreffenden Schaden anbelangte.

It's time for another episode of "Take something really ugly and turn it into something at least useful". In this case, that's bushes (or trees, depending on the scale).

In a SciFi-Game, you can use something like that all the time: there are planets with vegetation. I wanted to do a firefight in a hydroponic garden on a space station. In terms of rules, that was easy - the trees and bushes counted as cover regarding spotting and aiming, but didn't regarding the actual damage.

Die Bäume selbst entstanden aus einer häßlichen Kunststoff-Ostergrasmatte aus einem 1-Euro-Shop.

The trees themselves were made of a really ugly plastic lawn mat, sold for Easter, in a 1-€-Shop.
 





 


Umgedreht offenbarte sich eine Gitterstruktur, die akzeptable Füßchen für die Büsche ergeben sollte.

On the back, there was some sort of grid structure, which was to be made into acceptable little feet for the bushes.

 
Die habe ich zunächst in Streifen geschnitten...

So i cut them into lines...
 








 
... und dann in besagte einzelne, kreuzförmige Füße für den einzelnen Busch/Baum.

... and then into said singular cross-like feet for the individual bush/tree.
 






 
Das Ergebnis waren eher mickrige Büsche. Ich war unzufrieden.

The result: puny bushes. I was not satisfied.









 
Also nahm ich das verbleibende Grünzeug auseinander und packte deren kleine Blätter auf die bereits geschnittenen Büsche.

So I took the remaining shrubbery apart and added those little leaves to the already cut bushes.

 

Weil die einzelnen Blätter auf Ringen lagen, die dann auf eine Art Dorn gesteckt waren, konnte man bis zu drei dieser Ringe auf einen Dorn aufreihen. 

Because of the leaves being attached to a ring, which was put on some kind of thorn, I could attach up to three of these rings to one thorn.





Das Ergebnis war sogar stabiler und sah auch ausreichend buschig aus.

The result was even more stable and looked sufficiently bushy.

Mit nicht mal einer halben Stunde Arbeit hatte ich dann genug Büsche, um einen hydroponischen Garten zu füllen (also mehr als auf diesem Bild). Und das für einen Euro! :-)

With less than half an hour of work I had put together enough bushes for my hydroponic garden (so, more than in this picture). And for the price of one €! :-)
