Gedruckte Karten - Printed Maps

Als Spielunterlage verwende ich normalerweise ein großes Whiteboard oder einen alten Touchscreen, flach auf den Tisch gelegt. Das Whiteboard ist praktisch, um es zu bemalen oder mit ausgedruckten, magnetischen Bodenkacheln zu belegen. Der Touchscreen macht einfach Spaß bei Raumkämpfen. Jetzt habe ich eine dritte Möglichkeit: die Leuchtfläche.

As a kind of game board I normally use a large whiteboard or an old touch screen, put flat on the table. The whiteboard is practical: we can draw on it, and the printed, magnetized tiles stick to it. The touchscreen is simply big fun in space battles. But now, I have a third option: the light board.

Die Platte war ein günstiger Gelegenheitskauf - eine ziemlich stabile Spezialglasplatte, mit Farbwechsel-LED beleuchtet und in einem Metallrahmen. Eine Acrylschreibe darüber schützt das Glas und ermöglicht, auch etwas fisselige Karten unter ihr zu arrangieren, ohne dass sie sich ständig verschieben.

The board itself was a bargain, or more of a lucky shot - a pretty solid panel of a special glass, illuminated by color changing LEDs, put in a metal frame. An acrylic sheet on top protects the glass and enables the use of rather flimsy maps und it without putting them in disarray on every move.

Als ich mir die dafür geeigneten Karten rausgesucht habe, habe ich festgestellt, das ich über die Jahre immer mal wieder eine ziemliche Menge Karten bei drivethrurpg.com zusammengekauft hatte. Allein die Schiffe von 0-hr sind einerseits spektakulär und andererseits riesig. Die alle in DINA4-Segmenten auszudrucken und zusammenzukleben war etwas, auf das ich nun wirklich keinen Bock hatte. Mehr aus einer Art Neugier heraus habe ich mich dann mal bei Online-Druckereien umgesehen und bin überrascht worden.

When I was selecting the maps to use with this thing, I realized that I had collected quite a lot of maps on drivethrurpg.com over the years. The ships from 0-hr alone are both spectacular and really big. To print those in A4-sized segments and glue them together was something I really didn't want to do. So, more out of curiosity, I looked for online print services - and was rather surprised.

In einer ganzen Posterserie nicht ein Motiv mehrere Male, sondern mehrere Motive jeweils ein Mal auszudrucken ist nämlich gar kein Problem mehr (wenn Du das schon wusstest, ist das schön für Dich - ich wusste es nicht). Also habe ich schnell 50 Motive, die mir etwas häufiger brauchbar schienen, zu einem .pdf zusammengewürgt und bei www.wir-machen-druck.de in A2 in Auftrag gegeben. 

To print a whole series of pictures not with one motive several times, but with several motives printed once each is not a problem anymore (if you already knew: good for you! I did not know.). So I hastily put together 50 motives I thought reusable into a .pdf and ordered them in DINA2 with a german online printing servive.

Das Ergebnis kam ein paar Tage später und sieht durchweg fantastisch aus. Die Druckqualität ist sehr gut, das Papier ordentlich und die Karten machen sich hervorragend auf der Leuchtplatte. Ich habe aus schwarzem Karton noch ein Passepartout gebastelt, damit die unbedeckten Ränder den Betrachter nicht zu sehr blenden. 

Vielleicht mache ich auch noch ein sauber ausgeschnittenes?

The posters arrived a few days later and look fantastic. The quality of the print is very good, the paper quality is decent and the maps look really good on the light board. I made a passe-partout out of black cardboard, so the uncovered edges do not blind the viewer.

Wenn also die Spieler jetzt mal wieder spontan eine Kneipe, eine Bunkeranlage, eine Luxusyacht oder eine verlassene Minenanlage überfallen, habe ich was Schickes parat. 

So, if my players once again decide spontaneously to raid a pub, a bunker, a luxury yacht or an abandoned mine, I have something nice to greet them.
